It's Friday. Yeah! I am actually going to cancel what I was originally planning to blog on, to bring you a story out of Texas. Meet Shea Shawhan. She is 18 and was born with a brain injury that left her with the mental capacity of an 8 year old. She is a cheerleader at her high school and is well loved by many.
She is the cheerleader on the far left. How cute is she? Earlier this school year, Shea was the victim of some horrible texts being sent to her from people in her school. Some of the most horrible things I have ever seen sent in text messages. Rather than taking this sitting down, she and her mom have taken it upon themselves to educate the kids in her school about the situation. They have rallied around her with love and support.
At the Homecoming game, people at her school, community and even those of the opposing team showed up wearing shirts that said "I'm with Shea". This made Shea realize that she is not alone and she is loved. Her softball team supported her as well. (She is the one being held up.)
This is Shea and her date for her high school homecoming. Doesn't she look beautiful! Check out these videos that the local news posted on her, here and here. I hope that this is a lesson to all. Please teach each other to be respectful. Stand up for the little guy. Be an example to the youth around you. Kindness goes a long way, think of the impact this will have on Shea. What kind of an impact can you have on another person today, with a simple smile?
