Michelle Chang Jewelry + A GIVEAWAY!
It's really inspiring to find a truly talented artist, who not only loves what they do, but really dug hard to find their true passion. Michelle Chang is one of these artists. She began her career as an illustrator, with clients such as Time, The Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune and other big name publications. While she enjoyed illustration, she found a new love in creating jewelry.
"I was at one time an aspiring fine artist, an interior designer, and an illustrator. Although I found enjoyment in doing all of those things, nothing compares to the degree of satisfaction and affinity that I feel when I make jewelry. Most likely because jewelry making is unique in that it allows me me incorporate all the various skills and interests that I've accrued up till now.
To me, jewelry making is drawing, design, sculpture, and craft. All embodied in a tiny object that can be worn and which I hope will provide meaning and value to the wearer.
I find inspiration in many things small and large, natural and man-made, living and inert. In short, pretty much anything and everything. Every piece of jewelry is made by hand and is therefore unique."
Her Etsy shop is filled with the most beautifully, handcrafted pieces. Each one is a sculpted piece of art. Here are a few of our favorites. The detail and exquisite touch to her pieces make this shop truly one of a kind.
When asked about her creative process, she says, "I don’t think I’ll ever have enough time to make all the jewelry I envision in my head. Everywhere I look, I see things that inspire me… ornate fences, metalwork on a belt, signage, flowers, sidewalk grills, even t-shirt designs. I always see patterns and designs in many mundane things, may they be sand dunes, wood grains, or clouds. Depending on the design, I may make a wax model for casting, or work directly with metal. Sometimes I do a combination of both. I work mostly in silver and gold, sometimes with precious or semi-precious stones. I also keep an eye out for trends that appeal to me and do my own take on it."
We are so blessed to have her as one of our sponsors. We feel so unworthy with her greatness gracing the sidebar of our humble little blog. Michelle has graciously provided us with one of her lovely pieces as a giveaway.
Meet the Small Wishbone Necklace. This lovely little piece is described by Michelle as being, "small and organically shaped wishbone necklace in sterling silver. The pendant is approx. 5/8" high on an 18" sterling silver chain."
